The Beaver Trust’s ‘Beavers Without Borders’ short documentary film, explores the benefits and challenges of reintroducing beavers to Britain’s landscapes, four hundred years after they were hunted to extinction for their meat, oil and fur. The documentary made by award winning film maker Nina Constable, hopes to promote discussion and help ensure a better future for the endangered species.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with members of the Caen Catchment Beaver Partnership who hope to be the first community led beaver introduction project to benefit the village and surrounding areas of Braunton in North Devon.

This event is part of a series of talks in the lead up to COP 26 which will explore how addressing the ecological emergency and improving biodiversity can help us address climate change.

This will be a hybrid event with tickets available for the in person show or via an online showing over Zoom.

About The Speakers:

Chris Jones who features in the documentary, is an organic livestock farmer from Cornwall. He has been involved with the setting up and running of the Cornwall Beaver Project from its beginning and has been a proponent of the widespread reintroduction of the species in appropriate places. He is one of the founders of Beaver Trust, and is its restoration director. Chris enjoys real beer, real cider and real people.

Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer is the Restoration Manager at the Beaver Trust. Roisin is a highly experienced field biologist and recognised beaver reintroduction specialist. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications focusing mainly on beaver reintroduction, wildlife health screening, captive care and welfare. Roisin is also the lead author on the Eurasian beaver management handbook and completing her second book on beaver ecology, conservation and management.

Adrian Bryant is a Braunton Parish Councillor and has been leading on consulting landowners and other key stakeholders about the introduction of beavers on the Caen Catchment. Adrian recently featured on Radio 4’s Costing the Earth programme ‘Beaver Town’. He is also a founding member of Braunton Regen a local climate action group.
