We have an exciting beach cleaning event coming up on Saturday 3rd December at Cockington Mouth. You may or may not have heard about this stretch of beach – it’s just south of Greencliff and north of Peppercombe where the south west coast path touches down onto the beach (Google friendly coordinates: 51.010904, -4.286651). Due to the remote location there is a phenomenal amount of marine litter that collects there and rarely gets taken away (photos attached). Due to further logistical reasons about accessibility from the land Skern Lodge will be removing litter that we collect by boat later in the week.
This will be an all-day volunteering event from 10am – 3:30pm. The plan is to meet at Greencliff Farm (EX39 5BL) at 10am and walk along the coast path (approximately 45 mins) to Cockington Mouth to bag up as much litter as we can find and leave it at the top of the beach for collection by boat two to three days later. We will then return to Greencliff at around 2:30pm to be rewarded with lots of tea and cake. You will need to bring adequate sturdy footwear, warm and waterproof clothing and lunch. Well controlled dogs welcome. All beach cleaning equipment provided. Parking is available at Greencliff Farm – please car share if possible as parking space is limited.
This beach clean is supported by the AONB, Skern Lodge, National Trust, Surfers Against Sewage and it wouldn’t be possible without our funding from Tesco Bags of Help.
We thoroughly hope that you are able to volunteer your help on the 3rd December. Please feel free to get in touch with me for more information. We look forward to seeing you on the coast!
