Finding Nature’s Footprints

Year Two Feedback

The Finding Nature’s Footprints team have had a busy and productive year, working across the North Devon coast to upskill and encourage people to identify and record their local wildlife. We have held species surveys for a variety of wildlife, including newts, moths and lichens and counted as many species as possible during our wildlife recording days and Young Environment Group summer expedition. During our Ilfracombe BioBlitz in June, we engaged with local people and recorded over 300 species in habitats around the town. Surveying County Wildlife Sites has also been a focus this summer; creating localised management recommendations to improve the quality of our priority habitats. Communities have come together for our practical conservation workshops and practical volunteering sessions on Braunton Burrows, and we have also engaged with diverse audiences with Sunrise Diversity and the Pickwell Foundation to explore the National Landscape together.

A BIG thank you to everyone who has been involved in the project this year. We are currently asking for feedback so that that Year 3 of the project can be bigger and better than ever. Your input is super important, and could help us secure funding for more projects like this!

Community Led Nature Recovery Plans

The Finding Nature’s Footprints team are working towards building local community nature recovery plans in effort to improve habitats for wildlife on an accessible scale. Every little action counts, from the tiny blue tit feeding at the bird table to the new pathway for a hungry hedgehog. To put these plans into action the Finding Nature’s Footprints team are gathering the community together in the new year to hear different views, share opinions, skills, and support everyone to make a difference, however big or small. We invite you to come along to these meetings in the new year to share, learn and work with us for a better local future:

  • Hartland and Welcombe Meeting: Hartland Village Hall Saturday 25th January 1-3pm
  • Combe Martin Meeting: Combe Martin Community Centre 5th February 6-9pm
  • Croyde and Georgeham Meeting: Croyde Village Hall 12th February 6-9pm
