Join Plastic Free North Devons Big Saunton Beach Clean!
As always there is free parking for Big Saunton Beach Clean volunteers, and hot drinks will be provided by the wonderful Saunton Break Cafe. This year the cafe will only be providing drinks in reusable cups, so please don’t forget to bring your own cup! We want to avoid creating any extra waste, especially when there is a much more sustainable alternative, and swapping out disposable cups for refillable ones is an easy win.
All beach cleaning equipment is provided but if you have your own, please bring it along with you.
This year’s beach cleans are being made possible by our ongoing partnership with Christie’s Estates, Saunton Beach Enterprises Ltd, North Devon Coast AONB, local Surfers Against Sewage reps, and Saunton Break Cafe. We are also pleased to officially welcome Saunton Surf Life Saving Club, Walking on Waves surf school, and Surf Saunton as partners to help grow the impact of these regular cleans.
We work hard to collect data at every clean with regards to other national campaigns and organisations. Contributing regularly to the Marine Conservation Society’s citizen science initiative as well as Surfers against Sewage brand audits, helps us collectively build the evidence we need to lobby for change.
** For those regular cleaners – we are trialling a new system with Christies estates and Saunton beach – which enables people to clean further up the beach and leave rubbish in specific spots in the run up to the clean…
We have plotted 3 what3word sites between Northern Boundary (track which leads from Sandy Lane car park to beach) and Crow Point.
Collection point 1 (Northern Boundary track entry point – behind military signs) What3words: foiled.wiggling.intruders
Collection point 2 (Saunton side of Airy Point – marked by pole)
What3words: sparks.tools.users
Collection point 3 (Crow side of Airy Point – inside broken boat)
What3words: triathlon.earpiece.rekindle
