Cliffs & Coast of Down End, Croyde : A Guided Walk

Event Date: 3rd June 2023, 10:00

Event Category: Walk / Tour

Location: Croyde

JOIN LOCAL GUIDE PAUL MADGETT, ON A EXPLORATIVE WALK OF DOWN END & CROYDE BEACH.

A Braunton Countryside Centre Event

What to Expect:
This guided walk will follow the cliff-top along the Coast Path as far as Down end overlooking Chesil House, then returning a short way before descending the low cliffs on rough steps cut into them, to investigate the pocket beaches and foreshore rocks, and the strand-line around Down End.

This will take the full morning with the opportunity to stay on for the afternoon to walk across the beach, circling back into Croyde Village, acting as rock and landscape detectives to try to work out the deep history of Croyde Bay.

For those staying for a whole day’s walk, please bring a packed lunch and water, and appropriate clothing for the weather forecast. There are refreshments and toilets available at Down End Car Park and Croyde village as needed.

For this walk a reasonable degree of fitness is required; there are a few rougher sections that could be muddy in places (hence strong walking shoes or boots; some may wish to use walking poles); also some steepish slopes down on to the beach section with stiles/gates to negotiate. Please wear walking shoes or walking boots, especially if staying for the afternoon’s walk.

No dogs to be brought on this walk please. Children are welcome, but must be closely supervised by a responsible adult.

Getting there:
We encourage attendees to use public transport, an appropriate bus (21C bus) leaves Braunton outside the Coop shop at 09.26am for those coming from Braunton. Arriving at Down-end car park at 09:42am.

For those that wish to drive or arrive at Down End their own way, you can park at Down End Car Park (£5 for up to 3hrs) – What3Words ///sprains.graph.inserted
