Hartland Heritage Hotspots

Heritage Hotspots in Hartland

World War II radar stations, Iron Age hillforts and 19th Century Limekilns. These are just a few of the historic gems waiting to be discovered in the Hartland Peninsula.  These ‘Heritage Hotspots’ have been bought together in a free and easy to read leaflet. The leaflet was created as part of the North Devon Coast AONB, Coastal Heritage Project and highlights areas of interest away from Hartland’s more popular tourist destinations.

Hartland was once known for being ‘furthest from railways’ and although still remote, the area is easily explored by car and on foot. The heritage hotspots featured in the leaflet offer a great day, and many are found on the South West Coast Path, among breath-taking scenery.

Joe Penfold, Heritage Officer for the AONB said “Although the leaflet only scratches the surface, it’s nevertheless a great starting point to discover some of the lesser-known historical and archaeological features in this fascinating and ancient landscape.  Some sites are quite easy to miss, so our aim was to put them on the map and help raise awareness about their cultural significance”
