The Explore the Coast website was developed to provide an increased awareness of the special qualities of the AONB coastal area and encourage car free tourism for at least one of two days of each visit. It does this by providing a fascinating archive of web based resources for people to use, starting at the front door of their home or holiday accommodation.
The Explore the Coast website was launched at the end of 2011 and receives a high level of visits. Whilst the majority of visitors are from the UK we have significant international interest and some fascinating local memories and images have been uploaded by the general public from as far afield as Australia and Canada!
On the homepage you’ll see two videos showing you how to use the map and our itinerary planner.
Recreational opportunities feature on the website with regular social media updates through Facebook and Twitter which link to different places on the ExploretheCoast map and features such as our range of interpretation guides, walking and cycling information and Mission:Explore challenges for young people.
A popular feature is the public footpath layer with routes overlaid onto Google maps and a number of pins which can be clicked to find more detail about points of interest.
